INSTRUCTOR

John H. Rannells, EE, PE

As an Electrical Engineer, Mr. Rannells has more than 40 years of experience in managerial, technical, teaching and practical experience across a broad range of Consulting Engineering and Manufacturing companies; which include Amoco Power Co., Amoco Oil Co., Brown & Root, Sargent & Lundy, Interlake Steel, and American Can Co.

He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of American Petroleum Institute (API), where he was the Chairman of the Interdepartmental Advisory Task Force on the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) , Standard for Electrical Safety Requirements for Employee Workplaces (NFPA 70E), Recommended Practice for Classification of Locations for Electrical Installations at Petroleum Facilities (ANSI/API RP500). Working with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Mr. Rannells was the APIs representative for ANSI/NFPA 70- The National Fire Code- on Code Panel 14 for Article 500-516, Hazardous (Classified) Locations, and NFPA 70E - Electrical Safety in the Workplace - re-structure NFPA 70E into mandatory language to allow it to be adopted and enforced by OSHA (29CFR 1910.300-399)

Mr. Rannells has authored or co-authored technical papers for IEEE Petroleum and Chemical Industry Conference Record: Practical Considerations of Area Classification - More is not Better. (1993); and Practical Con- siderations of Area Classification - How Far to Classify. (1994), which was later published in IEEE's Industry Applications magazine, Vol. 2, No. 3.
 
Participants are encouraged to bring their copy of The National Electrical Code - 1999. If you do not have this book, you can pre-order it through Lehman Electrical Seminars.
