Occupational Health and Safety:
Bird droppings from areas such as external air conditioning units,
window ledges, walkways, water treatment supply systems and
pedestrian entrances should be removed as soon as possible to
eliminate possible health and safety risks to the public. Birds are
the cause of many diseases of humans and domestic animals.
Buildings/Walkways/Entrances:
Droppings from birds on buildings, walkways and entrances are
unsightly, corrosive to building materials, and accelerate the
deterioration of a building. The acidic secretions produced by
fungi that feed on the droppings cause most of this damage. The
costs associated with clean up and restoration can be enormous
and without adequate protection the cycle continues.
Electrical Substations:
Birds search for roosting, feeding or nesting locations. Substations
offer perfect alcoves and angles for bird invasion. Birds are also
attracted to the noise and heat emitted by transformers. Roosting or
nesting birds in the I beams prevent switches from operating.
Problems are compounded when birds nesting in transformer radiator
fins encourage other animals to enter substations in search of food.
